LAINGSBURG EYE CARE CANDY BUY BACK 2020

As you know, our Halloween Candy Buy Back program is one of our favorite things! We’re so excited to share that in 2020, we were able to donate 31 pounds of candy! The majority of the candy was donated from the youth group at our local Methodist Church. We offer $1 per pound to the kids for donating some of their candy to the Michigan National Guard troops. The youth group requested to donate their money to the troops as well! Angela Harkins from the Michigan National Guard came to pick up our candy and was very excited to bring it back! We are constantly overwhelmed with gratitude for our community that helps us in supporting our Michigan National Guard.

Emergency Day

LaingsburgEmergencyDay SocialPost

Dr. Marsha Brandon, owner of Laingsburg Eye Care, in celebration of her birthday conducted her 9th annual Emergency Day on Monday, September 28th.

Emergency Day is to benefit those in extreme need of an eye examination and glasses. In past years Laingsburg Eye Care has donated many free eye examinations and basic glasses to patients who fell in the Emergency Day criteria. The criteria ensure that Dr. Brandon can serve those who need help the most. Likely candidates have no insurance. Have not had an eye exam and new glasses in the past 5 years and honestly cannot afford it.

Laingsburg Eye Care would like to thank Walman optical and our frame representatives who helped make this day possible.

2020 Good Deed Contest

Ten-year-old Cameron Dethlefsen is this year’s winner of the Laingsburg Eye Care Good Deed Contest. All the contestants wrote a letter about a good deed that they had done and sent it to our office. Then the letters, with names removed, were submitted to the Laingsburg businesses to vote to determine the winner. Cameron was selected for his letter which he wrote about his Nana, Tracey Poeman. Cameron has made the decision to donate a portion of his $100 gift card to the Angel Tree. We are so happy with our winner! Congratulations, Cameron!

Read the letter below:

“Me and my nana save our coins all year. Every year around Christmas we dump them in a machine. This machine counts them and gives us the receipt which we turn in for cash. Then we find an Angel Tree. Angel Tree is a wish list for kids who don’t get presents. We pick out which angel to buy for. Then we go shopping! We pick out presents the kids have asked for and buy them with our cash. We then find the big box near the Angel Tree and put our presents in the box. The people from Angel Tree wrap the presents and give them to the kids. Me and my nana have done this for four years and I am excited about doing it again this year.” -Cameron Dethlefsen

Dr. Brandon and staff feel so blessed to be able to help contribute to the community during this holiday season!

During the months of November and December, we host a food and toy drive. If a patient brings in food or donates toys, they get a discount on their eye exam. This year, we had a bunch of community members bring in items to simply donate without needing an exam. We have already had the opportunity to give the toys to one of the local churches that helps support those who need help giving gifts to their children. Dr. Brandon and staff feel so blessed to be able to help contribute to the community during this holiday season!

During the months of November and December, Laingsburg Eye Care has a special deal. If a person gives back to their community by bringing food or toys for the office to give away, they can get an eye exam for only $49. Toys that were brought in went to the Laingsburg Congregational Church and Dairy Den collections. From there, the toys went to a place for parents to be able to come and pick out the toys for their children. Donations of food were taken to the Laingsburg Food bank.

We are so thankful to everyone that donated and made the collection a success.
